Press Release
City of Broadview Heights in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) proposes to improve the safety and congestion along Wallings Road from Skyline Drive to Mill Road in the City of Broadview Heights, Cuyahoga County. The proposed project includes recommendations from an ODOT Safety Study. Work includes widening the bridge over IR-77 and replacing some bridge components. The completed bridge will have one lane of traffic in each direction, one center turn lane, and 6’ sidewalks on each side. The work also includes construction of a left turn lane from eastbound Wallings Road to northbound IR-77 on ramp; widen Mill Road and construct a northbound left turn lane from Mill Road to Wallings Road; widen Wallings Road and construct westbound left turn lane to Mill Road & westbound right turn lane to northbound IR-77 on ramp; widen IR-77 southbound exit ramp and construct a second right turn lane from exit ramp to westbound Wallings Road; and construct a second westbound through lane on Wallings Road from the IR-77 southbound exit ramp west for approximately 250 feet; drainage; and upgraded traffic signals.
Impacts to traffic include Phase 1 one lane of traffic in each direction will be open; and during Phases 2 & 3 one lane of traffic will be open eastbound, with westbound traffic detoured.
The project requires approximately 0.77 acres of temporary right-of-way from 28 parcels and 0.112 acres of permanent right-of-way from 6 parcels. The right-of-way is required for grading and constructing the sidewalks.
The City is seeking comments regarding environmental or social issues related to this project, including, but not limited to, the effect of the project on local residents, cultural resources (archaeological and history/architectural), ecological resources (streams, wetlands, etc.), and regulated materials (dump sites, underground and above ground storage tanks, etc.). Detailed environmental impacts are unknown at this time but could include historical impacts, floodplain impacts, ecological impacts, and could require waterway permits.
