Broadview Heights Parks and Recreation Rainout Policy

 To Parents and Coaches,
As baseball and softball season kicks off we want to make you aware of how we plan to address the possibility of rainouts during the season.

We will make every attempt to notify parents and coaches in a timely manner about the status of games in order to minimize any inconvenience you might experience. However, it is not always possible to provide hour by hour real time updates during changing weather conditions.  Although inconvenient, there may be situations where you will need to arrive at the fields to determine if your game will or will not be played.

Weekdays:
If the decision to cancel games is made prior to 4:00 PM, the rec center will notify all those signed up for rainedout.com texts and emails when that decision is made.  The rainout line (440-526-3996) will also be updated at that time.

Texts through rainedout.com will NOT be sent after 4:00 PM on weekdays.

If the weather deteriorates within 45 minutes of your game time, it may be necessary to make the decision to play or not to play at the field and parents and coaches may not be notified in advance.   Determining whether to play or not will be the responsibility of the umpire (s), league officials and/or grounds crew.

Weekends:
If possible, we will update the rainout line and send rainedout.com notifications by 8:30 AM for morning games.  However, the decision to play or not may have to be made at the fields.

If the weather deteriorates within 45 minutes of game time, it may be necessary to make the decision to play or not to play at the field. Parents and coaches may not be notified in advance.  Cancellation of the game will be the responsibility of the umpire(s), league officials and/or grounds crew.

Games may be cancelled for a period of time while the grounds crew works to prepare the fields for games later in the day.   For example, “Games starting before 12:00 PM are cancelled.  For the status of games starting at 12:00 PM or later, call the rainout line after 11:00 AM.”

Rainedout.com notifications are used to provide advanced notification of cancelled games. They are not  designed for real time or constant updates.  If you do not receive a text message but want to know the current status of the fields, call the rainout line.
