About Greene Acres Community Garden

In 2013, the City of Broadview Heights (in conjunction with Chippewa Garden Club, Inc. and Air Control Products, Inc.) started a community garden located at 3800 Towpath Trail, adjacent to Air Control Products whose CEO Robert Greene made the 120’x120’ parcel available. An organization was formed and it now has a duly elected Board of Directors and governing by-laws.

In its inaugural year, Green acres and the City of Broadview Heights fenced the entire garden and installed a water line for gardeners to water their plants. In its second year Greene Acres plans to increase the number of plots available. Also planned for this year is construction of a storage shed, compost bins, raised garden bins for those preferring elevated access to their garden plots, and a bulletin board for announcements and member communications.

The 56 raised garden plots are available to anyone who lives in or works for a business located in Broadview Heights, or is a member of the Chippewa Garden Club. Each 4’x10’ garden plot rents for $30 yearly, and $20 for each additional plot. Those interested in joining should contact Marianne Nolan at m.nolan@csuohio.edu

Community gardens are becoming more important as sources of education and support for people interested in gardening as a healthful activity; growing their own organic vegetables; and associating with other like-minded residents.
